In the year 2010, Gopi Puthran started his career in Hindi cinema under the YRF banner as a writer for the film LAFANGEY PARINDEY. He wrote the screenplay and was also an assistant director for the 2014 release MARDAANI starring Rani Mukerji. He was also the writer of his directorial debut MARDAANI 2 (2019), which was the sequel to MARDAANI (2014). The film received critical acclaim and commercial success.
