Speaking about the award, Rani said, “I am humbled, thankful and proud that Mauritius has given me such honor and love with this Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award. This festival brings some really good cinema and also provides a rare chance for French and Indian cinema to be celebrated together. Many of my films like Bichhoo, Hello Brother and Kuch Kuch Hota Hain have been shot here. I love the pristine natural scenery and vibrant culture of Mauritius. I am thankful that those of Indian origin have given me such affection. We share a common history of colonialism and struggle for independence. In the years to come, I hope we also find common ground in our arts and cinema.”
