MASHALLAH - WAJID, SHREYA GHOSHAL
A person says Mashallah when they find something beautiful ?and praises what Allah created and in this case it is Ek Tha Tiger’s befittingly titled item song Mashallahbased on the stunningly beautiful Katrina Kaif. Mashallahhas a very lively and distinct Middle Eastern flavor and is sung by music composer Wajid himself. Giving him company is Shreya Ghoshal who shows her versatility by singing in a husky low range. The song has a blend of djembe, darbuka, tar drum and finger cymbals along with a constant flutter of tambourines all coming together to create a rich blend of percussive rhythms. The music interlude has a flawless Arabic rendition by Benny Dayal against a jugalbandi of rhythm and solo. One can clearly hear in Wajid’s voice that he loves to sing for Salman Khan where he doubles up as singer and composer with Sajid in their first ever YRF song composition. This song is pure unadulterated ‘Salman Khan&Sajid-Wajid style’, aka a full on commercial and dance floor hit!
LAAPATA - KK, PALAK MUCHHALA
Laapata is a favorite of Sohail Sen and is sung in the beautiful lilting voices of KK and Palak Muchhala. The first thing that you think of when you hear this song is the strong influence of Latin American music, where many of Laapata’s tunes and sounds originate. The song section which includes Cuban musical instruments like congas, bongos, timbale, bass guitars, horn section and acoustic guitars, along with the entire chorus section, has been recorded in Cuba, giving this song the authenticity it needs. The fine melody of the local music transports you to a paradise like Havana where the song has been shot in the most breathtaking locales which are sure to put you in a romantic mood.
BANJAARA - SUKHWINDER SINGH
Banjaara is sung in an iconic fashion that is typical of Sukhwinder Singh. The song is orchestrated according to the Irish and Celtic region’s musical style and performed with the same energy and flavour. Banjaara has a very strong influence of violins and footsteps which is original in all Irish folk music. Listeners are treated to a magical blend of acoustic guitars, bouzouki, darbuka, drums, strings, bagpipes and the accordion, along with melodic vocals in this number. Banjaara will keep you humming for days. Enjoy the Tiger’s song!
SAIYAARA - MOHIT CHAUHAN, TARAANNUM MALLIK
A slow love ballad, Saiyaara which means ‘lonely planet’ is gracefully sung by Mohit Chauhan and Tarannum Mallik with a lot of soul and ease doing full justice to this lovely laid back track of the album. Saiyaara is a beautiful amalgamation of the rich Indian sounds of instruments like the saaz, santoor, dulcimer, oud and duduk. Sohail Sen has created an extraordinarily rich and emotionally resonant sound with Saiyaara. This song is simply a must hear.
TIGER’S THEME - INSTRUMENTAL
Tiger’s Theme is the mnemonic theme of the film. It gets your pulse racing and makes you expect something coming your way as the track progresses. Tiger’s Theme is catchy and reflects the Tiger’s world perfectly!
MASHALLAH, LAAPATA and BANJAARA REMIXES are three foot-tapping tracks which complete the album and keep your adrenaline pumping! These will surely make you turn the volume up.
Sohail Sen and Sajid-Wajid are known for surprising the listener and experimenting with different types of music and have surpassed expectations with EK THA TIGER. The music is very international in nature, which adds the necessary global scale and feel to the songs. While each song has its very own distinct flavor, the entire album put together successfully brings out the significance and considerable vastness of Ek Tha Tiger!
