“Chak De India” was adjudged as the “Best Film for providing popular and wholesome entertainment" at the 55th National Film Awards ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday, October 21, 2009.
The President of India, Ms. Pratibha Patil gave away the Award. Mr. Yash Chopra and Shimit Amin were present to collect the Award.
“Chak De India” was one of the most successful films of the year commercially and also won unprecedented critical acclaim and numerous awards from all across the world. Shah Rukh Khan’s realistic portrayal of the hockey coach Kabir Khan is yet remembered by viewers worldwide and the magical combination of the Director - Writer duo of Shimit Amin & Jaideep Sahni garnered praises galore for this landmark film.
Always recognized for meaningful cinema, Yash Raj Films has previously won 10 National Awards in various categories, out of which 5 were in the "Best Film for providing popular and wholesome entertainment" category.
