Yash Chopra was honoured by the
International Punjabi Society at their 34th World convention on 7th January 2008, for spreading Punjabi culture abroad through his films.
The awards were given by Mr. R.L. Bhatia, Honourable Governor of Kerala and Mr. Suresh Shetty, Honourable Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra and M r. Kulwant Singh Kohli, former Sheriff of Mumbai and President, International Punjabi Society (IPS).
IPS is engaged in bringing about great affinity amongst Punjabis settled all over the world by promoting the Punjabi language, literature, culture, folklore, dance and drama. The Annual World Convention of the International Punjabi Society 2008 was a high voltage event which was graced by celebrities and nearly three hundred NRIs and delegates from Canada, Toronto, UK and US, who participated in the proceedings, which also included cultural programmes and Punjabi folk dances.
