Indian Cinema’s Most Celebrated Love Story Honoured As Part Of The BFI’s LOVE Season!
November 10, 2015 - Continuing its 20th year celebrations, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) witnessed a special screening extravaganza at the iconic BFI in London as part of its romantic season – ‘LOVE: FILMS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH… FILMS TO BREAK YOUR HEART’ in partnership with Plusnet.
This special screening of DDLJ took place on Saturday 7th November at BFI Southbank. The BFI’s LOVE season is currently celebrating a broad spectrum of romantic films and TV gems from the swooning silent era to the present day. The DDLJ extravaganza was featured alongside a wider curation of Hollywood melodrama, British period drama and European erotic thriller. Aditya Chopra’s DDLJ starring superstars Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol was showcased as ‘The Brave-hearted Will Take the Bride’ and was the only lead Indian title at the BFI screening.
As part of this very special 20th anniversary screening, a nationwide search for UK’s very own Raj & Simran was also held in conjunction with Asian TV channel B4U and BFI, to uncover a special Raj and Simran jodi with their own unique love story against the odds. The winning couple, Pahul Ahluwalia and Rahul Sharma of East London were welcomed onstage and gifted with hampers of DDLJ memorabilia and collector’s item merchandise while they paid homage to the iconic screen looks of the film’s lead stars.
And it was none other than the superstar Shah Rukh Khan himself who regaled the audience and winners with an extraordinarily delightful and charming video message completing the amazing experience of this special celebration!
December 18, 2015 - Simran and Raj from the much-loved Yash Raj Films’ Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge fly the flag for Bollywood high and have topped the BFI top couple poll and the film has also topped the poles in most UK regions!
The results of the poll were announced on December 18th - incidentally on the very same day that the much adored pair are back on the silver screen with their latest blockbuster!
