In its press conference today, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry announced the 52nd National Awards for Cinema.
Yash Chopra’s love legend
“Veer-Zaara” was adjudged as the
“Best Film providing popular and wholesome entertainment”, whereas Saif Ali Khan’s role as Karan Kapoor in last year’s super hit “Hum Tum” earned him the National Award in the
“Best Actor Category”.
When asked for his reaction, Mr. Yash Chopra, Chairman of Yash Raj Films said “For the last three decades, Yash Raj Films has committed itself to providing excellence in filmed entertainment. The receipt of the National Award for two of our three releases last year, heartens me as it confirms that we are living up to our promise”.
These awards are the glittering capstone to a landmark year for Yash Raj Films. With its three releases all being amongst the top grosser of last year, and a total of 54 awards already won by the three films – Hum Tum, Dhoom and Veer-Zaara, Yash Raj Releases were top-of-mind in 2004. Yash Raj Films has previously won 8 National Awards in various categories out of which 5 were in the “Best Film providing popular and wholesome entertainment” category.
“Each of these honours is an indication of the immense love our audience has for our brand of cinema. I feel honoured and proud of being the recipient of such plaudits. And as we continue our journey towards becoming a global entertainment major, I will always live up to the commitment we have made to our viewers”, Mr. Chopra concluded.
